It's 2AM and I can feel something creeping in the dark, it made a sound, a familiar sound. It sounded something like a baby would, if it hadn't been attended to by it's parent. (_Isn't it weird we can refer to babies as it?_) Well let me backtrack, so in the midst of this cold night, I was awakened by this sorrowful chant of a baby-like pitch, and then is when the idea hit me, it must be that cat!!

You know that unwelcome cat that always seems to have a VIP pass to your house. The one that uses your patio more than you do (sorry I meant veranda or balcony depending on... well let's not make a segue here... let's keep on track). I was viscerally revolted by this cats continual invasion of my personal space until I grew accustomed to it's presence,  well we sort of came up with a livable situation with this cat. So it used the patio while I was away and immediately I got back. I didn't have to give it the heads up.

Once it saw me, it gave a somewhat dismissive, scratch that, 'a bombastic side eye' (for those that get it) and without looking away it walked in the opposite direction as if to tell me, it wasn't okay with the our 'living situation' but you know how freewill isn't always choice for the proletariat, (yeah I hope I struck a chord with my internalized capitalism, anyway let's get back to the point.... )

I grew fond of this cat's presence,  let's call it Lulu so the word cat doesn't sound redundant. So Lulu and I grew a form of comradery that I can't put into words. It was so cognizant of my routine, ohh well, I guess our routine clashed in a sense.

Long story short, I was walking home some day after a long day at work, thinking about anything but pleasant thoughts when right at the side walk next to my house. I saw Lulu's lifeless body, she was probably slain by a car in the night (hopefully the driver made it home, cause knocking a black cat can definitely stir up all kinds of superstition, Goodluck anonymous driver, or not!!!😏)

Where was I? yes, Lulu's lifeless body, lying on the sidewalk did take me down an emotional rabbit hole, the most significant being the questioning of our mortality and how fragile we are to the most menial predicaments that may befall us without any form of warning or preparation.

Well, did she say goodbye to the rest of the homeless cats? Did she finish eating the rat she had tucked away for dinner, did she make it to my patio that day? There is no telling, the only thing we can be sure of is Lulu didn't make it 'home' that day.

Mortality is such a divisive topic for me cause, I mean isn't it the end? Like no more strawberry ice cream, no more MCU post-credit scenes or the un-fascinatingly apparent Fast and furious sequels.

Well, it is quite literally an end all the menial inconsequential tasks we've grown so attached to, all I know is, Lulu is somewhere in homeless cat heaven probably with a patio of her own relived she doesn't have to share it with me anymore...
