I am

I am not your knight in shining armor

I am that late night text you forgot to send

I am that one regret you wish you could erase

I am that migraine all those antibiotics won’t take away

I am an ulcer, in the midst of your unsettled stomach

I am that symmetric line of sweat slowly moving down your spine

I am your worst night mare in shining armor

I am a dream come true, a sky writing of perfection

I am your sub-conscious mind constantly reminding you of your imperfections

I am that due bill, your landlord’s rent notice in the midst of this turbulent economy

I am that early Beerako, Wewole text you tried so hard to evade

Well I am yours truly, Uganda Revenue Authority reminding you to pay your tax

I am that SACCO, that NSSF Fee that keeps you musing and wondering, Is it really worth it?

I am that constant reminder, ‘econoomie yaffe mbii’ and it won’t be changed by dramatic statements like “sweeee”

I am that soothing sound of ‘Kireka-Banda-Mutungo’ at the end of a hectic Monday

I am that late evening, 3-hour traffic jam on Jinja road, in a taxi filled with the uncomfortable odor

I am that low battery reminder, when your curfew is long past and you haven’t ordered that Uber boda,

I am that ‘You have used 90% percent of your Data’ text when your crush just texted “Hey!!”

I am that affordable meal, chapatti and beans formally called “Kikomando” but they call me Bean Gravy with Chapatti slices, I cry for lost my identity.

I am that on point MTN / Airtel ad that talks about “free” Pakalast / pulse minutes that I have to pay for.

I am that Ugandan working and hustling to buy a Uganda Waragi every night for that is what passes for patriotism today.

I am the aftermath of a night of pleasure, a mistake made without question, in my premature conception, I am rid of my right to life.

I am that political analyst on National television, constantly paid to fabricate facts to the masses.

I am yours truly, the Uganda Police here to serve and protect, but my spokesperson, well I shouldn’t get started on his transgressions.

Well I am just another self-proclaimed poet putting these words together.
