Nostalgic pre-pandemic journal entry
I’m conflicted, it’s 2019 probably 2020 by the time you are reading this. I am innately conflicted because of the roller coaster 2019 has been, I’ve had to learn and unlearn the basic and integral constituents of what I described as my view on life, my world view if you will. The most outstanding of all being the concept of ‘One Life.’
We are constantly distracted by the minimalistic intricacies of life, let’s say, the most recent marvel movie, the latest iPhone, pop-music release dates, however, we seem to be blind to the fact that life as it is, is passing by, minute by minute, and each second that goes by can never be retrieved. I’ve learnt that with each day that goes by, we all are writing our life story, without paying keen attention to the events playing out, unaware that each moment is the proverbial irreversible ink entailing the story of our lives.
My realization of this profound concept, freaks me out considering that I’ve been alive for quite a while and there isn’t much of a life story to speak of. After relentless musing, I came to the realization that I can’t change the fact that I didn’t become either President of Uganda or make any steps toward that, but the revelation I’ve got to is through my seemingly menial victories. Each of these fit into this puzzle, canvas if you will, that is life, and with each menial victory, I can soon become anything I set my mental faculties to.
We often have a lot of societal pressure thrust upon us as young adults, with all these questions of a rhetorical cadence about the future. Thus, if we all can make anything of ourselves subject to my recent realization that we are all innately gifted. We have got to trust that everything is working out for our good, “Romans 8:28”.
We often fall prey to self-pity and the cut-throat competition that characterises our contemporary understanding of life. My best guess is that we’ve got capitalism to blame for this. I read something from Vusi Thembekwayo, where he avers that time as we know and experience it is a human concept, he further avers that to expect God to work in the confines of time as we know it is fundamentally flawed. He asserts that God doesn’t experience time as we do so we should not expect him to work within the confines of our expectation. As 2020 dawns on each of us, I would love to express my gratitude to everyone who has been a blessing to me during 2019 and pray that I can’t reciprocate this and more to you all.
